Club Championship – Singles Strokeplay – September 2025

September is always TMGC ‘major’ month – our Club Championships. The chance to become Champion Golfer of the year.

Played as a singles strokeplay competition with full handicap allowance and 2 trophies to play for – Lowest Gross (Champion golfer) and Lowest Net (after handicap).

Unfortunately our back to back winner (2023 and 2024) Tom Dearden was unable to come to go for his hat trick of victories. You were missed Tom.

Apart from a brief unexpected downpour the weather was fair and the course in good nick – we only had 13 members turn up (2 less than last year) but nonetheless it was strong field and the competition would be tight.

So before announcing our winners…….the gross scores ranged from 85 down to 62 and net from 65 down to 51, better scoring than last year.

The final placings……full scores in the gallery below

Gross Scores – 3rd place Neil Armstrong 68 just pipped into the runner up spot by Mike England 65

Net Scores – 3rd Place Chris Davis net 55 just beating Neil Clarke on countback and the runners up spot went Graham Bond with a net 52.

Which just leaves our winners – Champion Golfer of the Year 2025 is Graham Bond with a gross 62 – a great round of golf and 2 shots better than Toms winning 2024 round of 64. Great job Graham.

Winning the lowest net score with a net 51 is Mike England – well done to Mike on finally getting his hands on this trophy after a couple of runners up spots year ago.

Our nearest the pin winners were Graham Bond Hole#2 and Greg Saunders nearest in 2 on Hole# 4 – a consolation for Greg who was in contention for the main competition until he played the wrong ball from the rough 2 holes from home – great sportsmanship from Greg on owning up to this.

A good mornings work for Mike England though, with another first first for him, running off with the £20 raffle prize – and no he didn’t take us to the pub for a beer ! 🙂

Hats off Sue for the usual pre round catering – always a pleasure and a great way to start the day. Legend. Thanks as always.
