The Kings Trophy – Drawn Pairs 4BBB Stableford – Oct 25

This drawn pairs competition was last played for in October 23 and was won by Mike Rutherford and Phil Jarrett. Traditionally played as close to the Ryder Cup as possible and with an ever changing format – this year it was 4BBB Stableford played on Sunday 5th October.

What a great turnout we had on a lovely mild October morning – 17 players turned up (Bryan played as a single as he had to leave early) – and great to see some new faces and a few of our younger teenage members taking up the challenge.

The course was in good ‘nick’ given the torrential wind and rain on Friday and Saturday and some good scoring was expected. It is usual in this competition that with the best score of the pair counting on each hole then scores in excess of 36 points should be expected if you want to get on the winners podium….and so it turned out.

Let’s get to that winners podium then…….

In 3rd Place with 40 points – Neil Butler & Adrian Lines were beaten in to 2nd Place by Richard Burgin & Chris Davis with 42 points. Our 2025 winners by 1 point were Mike England & Graham Bond with 43 points – well done to Mike & Graham on getting back to back competition wins following their success last months Club Championships.

Mention to our other pairs to who all scored well – Dave Holding & Ed March (39) ; Fred Stace & Andy Thomas (39) ; Stephen Williams & Neil Armstrong (36) ; Neil Clarke & Dan Spooner (29). George G and Richard Spooner playing for their official handicaps made up our final pairing.

This months skill prizes were nearly a closed shop with Neil Butler winning nearest the pin on Hole 3 (soo close to a hole in 1) and winning the nearest in 2 on Hole 9 until the last shot of the day played by young Ed Marsh – an adjudicated tape measure was needed (;) and Ed ran out the winner. Chris Davis was the lucky fella to go home with the £20 raffle.

Well done to everyone involved – Graham and Neil for running the comp. , Fred for his work on the course and special thanks to Bryan who donned the ‘catering pinny’ for the morning to make the teas, coffees and bacon rolls – great job Bryan, if there was a vacancy you’d deffo get the job. Our best wishes to Sue who unfortunately broke her arm recently – knowing Sue though she’ll be back in action next month !
