Seve Trophy 2021

Lockdown 3.0 is over and Competition golf returned to Town Meadow on a rather chilly but bright Sunday 11th April. The cold didn’t deter the diehards and 23 members turned up to play the Drawn Pairs Combined Stableford Event. Coffee and bacon rolls set everybody up nicely beforehand, a huge thanks goes to Sue Peart who has volunteered to look after competition catering going forward. I can honestly say after her induction this morning that food standards are going to improve – no pressure Sue :).

Anyway, a stiff breeze, some dampish fairways and difficult paced greens made good scoring very difficult for most of us. But our first competition winners of 2021 will remembered for a while I’m sure – after a recount of the cards their was a 3 way tie for first place with all 3 pairs on 67 points !! On countabck the eventual winners were 2 of our youngest members Edward Marsh (9 !!) and Sam Davis (16) . Well done to these 2 young lads – great to see them competing and showing many of us how to do it !! And here’s a fact – the combined age of these lads was quite a bit lower than some of us and alot more than half the age of the majority.
Narrowly beaten into 2nd Place were Gary Whiteside and Dave Standivan with the 2 Phil’s , Jarrett and Watts in 3rd place – all scored 67 points !.

The Nearest the Pin Prizes were won by Bryan Holden 1st Hole and Gary Whiteside 6th Hole – the first and 6th holes were cruelly chosen by competition organsiers Greg Saunders and Ian Mackin. Cheers guys !! Thanks to Ian and Greg for sorting the organisation, Sue Peart and Mike England for the grub and hot drinks and to all members for turning up and taking part. See you all again on May9th for the next comp – The TM Challenge Cup – Singles Strokeplay
