Walker Trophy 2021

Sunday July 4th was a Combined Stableford Pairs competition. Following England’s resounding 4-0 win against Ukraine in the Euros the previous evening only 12 players managed to make the early start – well done to you all for getting out of bed. Superchef Sue Peart ensured any cobwebs were blown away quickly (apart from Dermot who was apparently beyond repair !) with much needed coffee and Bacon Rolls.

Pairs were randomly drawn on the day and some strong pairings indicated the competition could be wide open and quite close – it didnt quite turn out that way. Our winning pair with 72 points were Greg Saunders and Adam Clay – great to see both of these on the winners podium – it’s been a while. Runners up on 66 points were Ian Mackin and Neil Clarke and third place on 63 points went to Gary Whiteside and Scott Drummie.
Remarkably, and for the second competition in a row, we had a hole in one on hole 5- this time the maestro was from the winning pair Greg Saunders. Well done Greg – sure we’ll hear the details for a while to come. Who will be next? Ian Mackin won the other nearest the pin prize – closest on hole number 1. Well done Ian.
