Club Championships – Singles Strokeplay – Sept 24

September is TMGC ‘major’ month – the Club Championships. Every members chance to become Champion Golfer of the year – if you have a recognised TMGC handicap of course.

A singles strokeplay competition with full handicap allowance and 2 trophies to play for – Lowest Gross (Champion golfer) and Lowest Net (after handicap).

Our current champion golfer Tom Dearden was back to defend his 2023 title and Neil ‘Clarkey’ Clarke was also ready to defend his Lowest Net score title from 2023.

The weather and course were set fair – would we get a significant turnout ? 15 members turned out which was an improvement on the August competition but nonetheless a very strong field was assembled and the competition was going to be tight particularly for the lowest net score trophy.

So before announcing our winners…….the gross scores ranged from 92 down to 64 and net scores 72 down to 54. For the first time in a while we had no sub par rounds at all – the handicap system is clearly working – well done Bryan !!

The final placings……full scores in the gallery below

Gross Scores – 3rd place Andrew Thomas 70 just missing out to Toby Stupples who came runner up with a 69.

Net Scores – 3rd Place Neil Butler net 56 and just missing out (again !!), this time on countback, in 2nd place Andrew Thomas net 55.

Which just leaves our winners – Champion Golfer of the Year and retaining his title is Tom Dearden going one shot better than last year with a gross 64. Great effort Tom its been a long while since somebody (probably Danny Wiltshire) has retained the trophy !!

Winning the lowest net score on countback (to Andrew Thomas) also with a net 55 is Chris Davis – well done Chris on going one better than last year and getting your win. Back to back wins for Chris who won last months DK trophy – this time though Chris’ handicap had been slashed by 5 shots. Well done Chris.

Our nearest the pin winners were Neil Butler Hole#2 and Chris Davis Hole#6 – a good mornings work for you both. No idea who ran off with the £20 raffle prize – hopefully they bought our winners a pint though 😉

As always a huge thanks to Sue for the pre round catering – always a pleasure and a great way to start the day. Legendary lady. Thankyou
