Who’d have thought we’d have managed to play our first 2 competitions of 2025 given the weather. Well done to Greg for persevering throughout February to get this competition played !!
For the hardy 12 that turned up today the 23rd of Feb conditions underfoot were ‘less than ideal for most of us’. No value for decent or half decent shots, the real risk of losing your ball on the fairway and putting on sodden greens a bit of a lottery as far as pace was concerned. But hey this is Town Meadow and we are all ‘real whatever the weather golfers’ !! 🙂
In line with the weather this competition is a bot of a lottery too – you score on an individual stableford basis and then the scorecards are turned face down and ‘blind pairs’ are picked the pair with the highest combined stableford score wins the trophy.
Neil Clarke, Lee Wolvey and Jake Carvell defied the conditions and all scored 36 or 37 points (par) – fair play to you 3 when most of us struggled – impressive. They all had their fingers crossed that they would be paired with somebody who had a half decent score !!
Alas none of them did and our winners this month were Andy Thomas and Fred Stace with a combined stableford score of 67 points – well done to you both on your victory. Commiserations to Dave Holding and Mike Rutherford in second place with 64 points.

A great morning for Fred Stace too – he ran (well walked to be fair) off with the £20 raffle prize. Thanks too to Fred for helping Greg with the organisation this morning.
Of course last words too Sue who yet again cooked enough bacon for 2 bacon rolls each (we love your style Sue) and served up the much needed teas and coffees pre match. Perfick.
