Challenge Cup – Singles Strokeplay – May 2022

Sunday May 8th – Challenge Cup Day. Only 11 members showed up for this one but good to see a couple of newer faces on the scene – we hope to see Joe Johnstone and Jim Hawkshaw at future competitions.

With our Captain Greg and usual support team ‘missing’ huge thanks to Richard Burgin and Neil Clarke for running the competition and of course to Sue ‘Mrs Reliable’ for serving up the usual pre round fare of coffee and bacon rolls.

A singles strokeplay event off full handicap with the lowest net score winning the trophy. 14 shots ultimately separated first and last postition but it was very tight for the top 3 spots and with only 2 shots (net) separating the top 4 players the dreaded ‘coutback’ came into play. Our top 2 carded the only 2 ‘sub par’ rounds. of the day

After some debate and calculation the final positions were as follows beating Dermot Newe into 3rd position was Tony Whiting (net 55), a very unlucky Neil Clarke (net 53), looking for his first competition win, was pushed into second place on countback by eventual winner Brennan Miles who also shot a net 53 but also carded the lowest gross score of the day with a 68.

No photos from this one I’m afraid and not sure who won nearest the pins either 😉
