Our first ‘different’ competition of 2024 – a Stableford event off full handicap last played in March 2023 when David Holding won it with an impressive 40 points. Who would choose the right club combination for the conditions and come out on top in 2024. 50% of the income from this years comp. will be donated to a very worthy charity nominated by Test Valley Golf Club. Helping ex serviceman with mental health issues get into golf – it has made a huge difference to many and very appropriate with Remembrance Day just round the corner.
Well, what a great turnout on a grey November Sunday morning, 17 members clearly liked the idea of carrying round a very light bag of 3 clubs and doing battle. Certainly our best turnout for 2024 so far – lets try and keep that going. Once Sue had fed and watered us all (THANKYOU) we were ready to go.
Course was in pretty good condition – no rain of note for a couple of weeks makes such a difference – but still not a lot of roll on the ball made it very tricky given the lack of club alternatives.
On to our monthly winners – nearest the pins – Hole 1 Simon Edwards and Hole 5 Jim Hawkshaw – well done guys. Our raffle winner was a very young and very delighted Henry Reardon won walked off with £20 – maybe Dad will now get a nice stocking filler for Christmas.
Only 2 players scored a level par 36 points and one of these would win. In joint 3rd place then – with all 3 players scoring 35 points were Henry Dearden (27) (well done young man, great morning for you), Simon Edwards (19) and Andy Thomas (14).
Our runner-up on 36 points (19) was Steve Cooke and this months winner was Neil Clarke (16) also with 36 points but just pipping Steve on countback. Well done Clarkey.
