After a year of disastrous weather which decimated our 2024 competition schedule we were all hoping for improved weather and course conditions in 2025 – things weren’t looking good BUT remarkably we managed to play our first competition of 2025 on Sunday 19th January – two weeks later than originally scheduled.
The Presidents Cup a Singles Strokeplay event off full handicap. Given the weather a huge turnout was not expected but 11 ‘hardy sorts’ turned up to compete – 9 of the usual suspects and two ‘newbies’ – Jake Carvell and David Ball – great to see 2 new faces and we hope you both will become regulars in these monthly competitions once your handicaps have been confirmed.
Course conditions were tricky and good scoring was going to be difficult. And so it turned out with only 2 players breaking par after handicaps.
This months winner with a brilliant gross 64 (net 53) was Lee Wolvey – Lee’s round included 3 birdies at the 3rd, 10th and 14th. Well done Lee on a long overdue competition victory. Lee beat Mike Rutherford on countback over the last nine holes for his victory just pipping Mike Rutherford who also shot a net 53 – so close for a first singles victory for Mike. Neil Clarke came 3rd with a net 56.
Congrats too to our nearest the pin winners – Lee Wolvey at the 3rd and Greg Saunders nearest the pin in 2 on the 8th.
Bryan Holden ran off with the £20 raffle prize – so a nice mornings work for him too.
Thanks to all who turned up and of course to Sue for pre match hot drinks and bacon rolls on a morning where I’m sure she had hoped for a nice lie in. 😉
The full competition results are shown below besides our winner Lee Wolvey.
