Overton is gearing up for the return of one of its most eccentric and beloved summer traditions—the 2025 Wheelbarrow Race, which is set to take place on Friday 18th July.
The much-anticipated event will kick off at 7:30pm on Pound Road, with participants asked to arrive no later than 7:00pm to check in and prepare for the mad dash through the village. The route, as always, involves a stop at every village pub, before crossing the finish line in glorious style at the Overton Recreation Centre on Bridge Street.
Entries are now open, and locals are being encouraged to grab a partner, don some fancy dress, and take on the challenge. Whether you’re in it to win or just in it for the beer and banter, it’s a night not to be missed.
To enter, simply fill out the official entry form and send it to Gary Savory via email at [email protected], or hand-deliver it to 5, Woodlands.

A few rules to bear in mind:
- All participants must be 18 or over—no exceptions, thanks to licensing laws.
- Children and animals must sit this one out—for both safety and legal reasons.
Organiser Gary Savory says: “It’s a brilliant event, completely unique to Overton, and the community spirit is second to none. We’ve had superheroes, sumo wrestlers, and even a barrow disguised as a pirate ship over the years!”
So if you think you’ve got the stamina—and the steering—dust off your barrow, dig out your costume, and join in the fun. It’s chaotic, it’s hilarious, and it’s very Overton.
