Ken Hogan Trophy 2021

We decided to squeeze in another competition during August (22nd) to make up for some of those competitions lost earlier in the year due to Covid. This time around it was the ‘blind pairs’ competition for the Ken Hogan Trophy – current holders Dermot Newe/Mike England. All players play individual Stableford in groups of four. The pairs are then drawn after the round by members and the aggregate highest ‘pairs’ stableford points score wins. Due to the late announcement of this competition we only had 12 members turn out. Thanks though to Sue Peart who changed some personal plans to keep us fed and hydrated before the game with the usual coffee and bacon rolls. Not so close as the Duncan King Trophy this time but not unusual for a ‘drawn’ pairs event. As ever with these Stableford events scorecards are often a ‘shambles’ and again this proved to be the case. Mike England and Bren Miles (71 points) were announced as winners on the day beating Bryan Holden and Richard Burgin (70 points) but after results verification by our handicap secretary this result was overturned – Bryan and Richard running out eventual winners by 1 point over Mike and Bren. 3rd place went to Dermot Newe and Phil Watts on 61 points. We will be introdcuing some scorecard workshops very soon to educate members in the art of stableford scoring – all those interested please email [email protected] – you know who you are !! 🙂
