Finally the weather relented – no rain, no ice…….no sun either but hey ho. The first competition of 2023 finally got underway. 12 hardy members turned up to compete – many others clearly opting for a Sunday morning lie in. Many thanks to Kim Tierney for turning up as Sous Chef (in Sue’s absence) to make sure we had the usual coffee and bacon rolls pre tee off – much appreciated.
6 pairs were randomly drawn and holes 2 and 6 were nominated for nearest the pin. The course itself was not too bad but the greens were rather tricky – the preceding weather prevented a lot of maintenance work and meant putting was a bit of lottery for many of us.
Full results are shown below – congratulations to our clear winners Neil Clarke and Ashley Burt with a combined stableford score of 70 points. A first competition win for Ashley who produced is best ever round at The Meadow – well done indeed. Michael Rutherford and Ed Marsh just pipped Dermot Newe and Lee Wolvey into second place on countback – both pairs scoring 67 points.
Nearest the pin – unbelievably and for the first time ever we think, nobody hit the nominated greens so no winners this month !!. Our inaugural post match raffle for £20 was won by Gary Beecham.
