Challenge Cup – Singles Strokeplay – May 23

Finally !!! Some warmth and sunshine on a Sunday morning down at The Meadow – shorts and polos were at last the order of the day. A real shame only 12 members turned up to enjoy our May competition – the course was in great condition and a huge thanks goes to all of our ground staff.

This months competition was a Singles Strokeplay event of full handicaps the current holder Bren Miles was here to defend the title he won in 2022. Could he hold off the strong field of 4 x 3 balls. Given the conditions good scoring and some low net scores were expected.

16 shots separated first to last place. Our top 3 this month were……….

In 3rd Place, winner of our last 2 competitions, was Neil Armstrong with a net 52 (playing off 11) who was beaten into 2nd place on count back by our winner last year Bren Miles who also shot a net 52 (off 14) but these 2 sub par rounds were bettered by our deserved winner Graham Bond who shot a net 49 ! Graham shot the lowest gross round of the day 62 and played off a 13 handicap. A well deserved first victory for Graham.

Nearest the pin (Hole 6) and nearest the pin in 2 (Hole 9) – many say the toughest hole on the course, at only 129 yards, proved to be so as nobody hit the green at all !! BUT Bryan Holden added to his stash of balls with yet another win on Hole 9. David Holding was this months lucky winner of the £20 raffle prize.

Sue, thanks as always for the fab bacon rolls, teas and coffees pre match. We were all well impressed with the new addition to your kitchen armory……..a tea bag grabber and strainer. Love it !!
