Club Championships – Strokeplay – Sept 22

Sunday 11th September was Club Major day – the prestigious annual Club Championships singles strokeplay. Current holders Phil Jarrett (lowest gross) and Scott Drummie (lowest net) were out to try and retain their trophies. The turnout for this event was fantastic – 23 members (a club record we think) turning out to dethrone Phil and Scott and get their names on the trophies.

The weather was set fair and the course was in great condition after some long overdue rain – all was set for a tight competition. Despite the conditions scoring proved very tough indeed and there was little margin for error – unusually only 3 sub par (net) rounds were made all morning but 9 gross birdies (2’s) were recorded probably a record for a club competition. Well done to Mike England 3 2’s, Bryan Holden, Bren Miles, Phil Jarret, Rob Walker, Dermot Newe and Neil Armstrong.

Onto the main events – best gross scores and best net scores (after handicap). In the gross competition the range of scores was wide 97 down to 63, equally net scores ranged from 70 down to 49 with only 3 sub par net rounds.

Gross scores 3rd Place Bryan Holden 66 and runner up again with 65 Mike England.

Net scores 3rd Place Jim Hawkshaw 52 (76-24) and runner up Jon Marsh 51 (63-12)

Our winners though – another first for a TM competitions – were father and son duo Jon and Edward Marsh. Jon shot a gross 63 to win the coveted Champion golfer of the year trophy and young Edward with a net 49 (71-22) won the lowest net score trophy. Huge congratulations to you both and hope you will be back next year to defned your titles.

Nearest the pin winners were Bryan Holden (as usual) and Neil Armstrong and Dave Standivan ran off with the tenner from the footy card.
