Duncan King Trophy – Singles Strokeplay – August 23

The second TMGC ‘major’ in honour of our late, great Captain, friend and fellow golfer Duncan King. This competition always precedes our September Club Championship. This August singles strokeplay competition off full handicaps saw 15 members turn up to compete – great to see a couple of of the old stalwarts back in competitive mode too – welcome back Phil Jarrett and Tom Dearden as well as more new faces.

A reasonable morning for the competition – muggy though, a bit of early light rain about but sadly our greens had not been cut which was going to make putting a bit tricky. The field though was pretty much wide open with everybody in with a shout of victory.

Our nearest the pin (#2) / nearest the pin in 2 (#9) winners this month were Adrian Lines and Mike England – well done fellas. Organiser Bryan Holden fixed the raffle and ran off with the £20 – well done Bry and thanks as ever for your organisation.

Our winner this month after 3 years with out a singles trophy was Mike England who shot the lowest gross score of the day with a 63 (52 net) beating Bren Miles into second place with a 66 (net 53) from Ashley Burt in 3rd place (on countback) also with a net 53 (80 gross). Tom Dearden and Fred Stace were next in line with net par rounds. The full results sheet is shown below.

Sue as usual was resplendant behind the hatch with the coffee, tea and bacon rolls. Nice one Sue.
