Texas Scramble – Team Strokeplay – July 22

Sunday July 10th was Texas Scramble day. What is a Texas Scramble I hear you ask ??

Everybody in the team (either 3 or 4 in a team) tees off and then decides on their best shot, everybody then plays from that position and this continues until the ball is in the hole. The only restriction is, each player has to use 4 (4 ball) or 5 (3 ball) of their tee shots during the round. Handicaps are combined for the team and divided by 10 for a 4 ball and 6 for a 3 ball. The winning team is the lowest net score (gross shots for the round less team handicap). A game of strategy perhaps – you can’t or shouldn’t always take the best shot ?

The weather was perfect and the course was in fantastic condition – hopefully the golf on the day would do both justice, expectations were that scoring could be low and that a net score well below par would be in with a chance of the trophy.

14 members turned up for this one, a real shame we didn’t have more given the weather but 4 teams (2 of 4 and 2 of 3) made for healthy competition and the teams were very well matched.

The results…….

4th Place 61 net 52 Sam Davis/Dave Standivan/Tom Jordan

3rd Place 56 net 49 Phil Jarrett/Dave Holding/Neil Clarke/Neil Armstrong

2nd Place 55 net 47 Bren Miles/Jim Hawkshaw/Kevin McKenzie/Gary Beecham

And our winners……. with a Gross score of Par 54 net 44 were Mike England/Richard Burgin and Adrian Miles – congratulations to them. Nice trophy too.

Our nearest the pin winners this month were the ‘Dangerous Brothers’ – TJ and PJ both were absolutely delighted with their new balls !!. Dave Standivan won £10 on the football card – that’s Dave ‘photobombing’ the Dangerous Brothers – loves having his photo on the website does Dave !.

As ever thanks to Sue for kicking the day off nicely with the usual gourmet coffee and plentiful bacon baps.
