The Kings Trophy – Pairs Matchplay – October 23

Sunday 1st October was Ryder Cup weekend so we introduced a new competition for this weekend. The Kings Trophy (not played for since 2016) is a pairs trophy so a drawn pairs matchplay competition over the full 18 holes was concocted.

Pairs were drawn and ‘4 ball better ball’ competition began – scoring was ‘ simple’……..1 point for a hole won and 1/2 point if ‘halved’ – each player received a handicap of the difference between themselves and the lowest player in the 4 ball and the lowest net score of each pair would win the hole. 18 points were available to each pair. What could be simpler we thought – sorting out the scorecards was challenging to say the least (eh Greg !! :)……..we had a total of 8 pairs playing so 4 4 ball matches teed off………..

In 3rd Place with 11 points were Rich Burgin and young Ed Marsh and runners up with 11.5 points were Fred Stace and Jon Marsh…..leaving our eventual winners as Phil Jarrett and Mike Rutherford who won their match convincingly and amassed an impressive 13 points !! Congratulations to Mike on his first tournament win – very well played and deserved Mike.

Nearest the pin winners this week were Phil Jarrett on Hole #3 and Lee Wolvey Hole # 5. Well done too to Captain Greg on winning the £20 raffle – well deserved after sorting out the very simple scorecards, pairings and our October competition. Brilliant – one for next years calendar definitely.

…………..and of course Sue – she never disappoints us on a Sunday Morning. Thankyou !!
